Re-elect Debra Dudack: Experience. Dedication. Results
I delivered on my promise to bring positive change to our Board of Education and school district during my first term in office. Today, our district is much stronger compared to four years ago. I served with courage and integrity during challenging times, including a successful leadership change for our district and a global pandemic. Through my leadership, Suffield now has:
- an exceptional superintendent who brings a standard of academic excellence, collaboration, transparency and open communication to our district;
- enhanced professional development for teachers and staff;
- new academic support staff to increase student achievement during the pandemic;
- a stronger focus on social/emotional well-being with new psychologists and social workers who are critical in mitigating the impact of the pandemic;
- new Science, Technology, Engineering and Math instruction at the elementary and intermediate levels;
- a new Director of Athletics and Student Activities position to elevate sports and extracurricular activities;
- a stronger special education program with enhanced training for teachers and staff and a new system-level support structure focused on reducing the achievement gap;
- greater fiscal responsibility through right-sizing district resources to match our student population;
- student representatives on the Board of Education;
- enhanced communication with families through a new Board of Education newsletter; and
- enhanced opportunities for public comment during Board of Education meetings.

- Experience and qualifications: My communication and leadership skills are a strong asset to our Board of Education and community. I work for Connecticut Children’s Medical Center as a communications manager, where I focus on publicizing health promotion and health equity initiatives. Prior to Connecticut Children’s, I worked for 11 years as a journalist at NBC Connecticut (Debra Bogstie) covering the state’s biggest stories related to crime, politics and education.
- Education: I have a bachelor of journalism degree in broadcasting from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a master of science degree in organizational leadership from Quinnipiac University.
- Family: My husband, Brian, has lived in Suffield since he was a child. We are raising our two daughters in the house he grew up in. Our oldest attends McAlister Intermediate School and our youngest attends Spaulding Elementary School.
- Community involvement: Besides serving on the Board of Education, I co-lead two Girl Scout troops and represent Suffield on the Cox Cable Advisory Council.
I am honored to advocate for the educational needs of Suffield children. In re-electing me, I pledge to maintain strong academic direction, open communication, transparency, and fiscal responsibility. I thank you for your support!
