Dan Vindigni – Fire Commission
A resident of Suffield since 1997, Dan has dedicated over 46 years to service as a first responder in both fire and EMS. He served with the Suffield Fire Department for 16 years (2006– 2022), including four years as Deputy Chief (2018–2022). In addition to his work in public safety, he has over 25 years of experience as an assistant town manager. Recently retired after 12 years with a Fortune 500 company as an Emergency Management Consultant.
Earlier in his career, he served as a Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps (1981–1985), where he was an infantry rifle platoon commander and logistics officer. His volunteer service in Suffield includes membership on the Emergency Management Committee (2016–2023), serving as an alternate on the Suffield Ethics Commission (2024–present), and coaching with Suffield Little League and recreation soccer.
Fire Commission focus points:
- Strengthen relationship between firefighters and the Commission
- Promptly address challenges and identify improvement
- Stabilize membership: Assess current volunteer alarm attendance standards and review practices in neighboring departments such as East Granby.
- Provide opportunity to reinstate the 6 volunteer members recently separated from the department who collectively represent 100 years of experience, with several levels of state-certified training.
- Review challenges faced with retaining career staff given the loss of 5 members over the past 2 years and identify opportunities to improve retention.

Develop annual department wide performance plan through collaboration with the Firefighters and leadership to set benchmarks for the Department to accomplish, eg. training, equipment acquisition, etc.

After 6 years of pursuing approval from the State to become Supplemental First Responders for emergency medical care, oversee fire leadership’s actions to ensure an effective, cost-efficient implementation that does not hinder fire department operations.
