James Mol – Board of Education
About James:
- Experience and Qualifications: Through my career as a consultant, product and team manager I have learned to listen first, and ask the right questions, to come to meaningful solutions. I believe this experience will continue to help me greatly in my work on the BOE. At the same time, the fact of having gone through my education in multiple countries in Europe and not having lived the American school system gives me a very open mind and the potential to bring fresh ideas when appropriate, and a novel look on those elements that already exist. My daily work in international business, working with diverse cultures and in multiple languages, continues to guide my belief that we need to empower our Suffield students to be critical thinkers, effective communicators and global citizens to be successful in whichever path they choose after graduation.
- Family: My wife and I moved to Suffield 15 years ago when we found the farm of our dreams (that is about to get preserved!) and have 3 wonderful children ages 10 and twins who are 9, 2 draft horses and a lot of Suffield wildlife
- Community Involvement: I have served on the Board of Education twice and am a current member since December 2021. I previously also served on the Advisory Commission on Capital Expenditures, and on the latest Charter Revision Commission.
Why James is running for BOE:
As a parent of 3 children that are in the Suffield Public Schools, I have a vested interest in the success of the district. With the choice of an exceptional Superintendent under my previous tenure, and the continued hard work of the current exceptional Board of Education Team and school administrators, we have made great strides in bringing stability back to the district, setting meaningful goals, executing those goals and vastly improving the performance of the students. That is not just important for student families, but also for those Suffield residents without children in the system because the value of your assets is linked in great part to the performance of the school district. I would love to continue with my work on the Board so that I can assure the best possible education for all the children within the Suffield Public Schools.
Once elected, I plan to:
- Continue to collaborate on our vision for the district which I think is exciting, forward-thinking, quality-driven and preparing our students for the world of tomorrow and the jobs that may not even exist yet.
- Promote the AgriScience program in our High School which is a definite strength of our district.
- Advocate for more parent participation, not just in the day-to-day school activity but also in the bigger education matters of the district, by improved communication on topics like the budget, the strategic plan and the vision for the district
- Ensure we provide the Superintendent, his team of administrators and all district staff the necessary means to be as successful and long-lived in the district as possible
