James Mol – Board of Education
About James:
- Experience and Qualifications: Through my career as a consultant and a project and team manager I have learned to listen first, and ask the right questions, to come to meaningful solutions. I believe this experience will continue to help me greatly in my work on the board. At the same time, the fact of having gone through my education in multiple countries in Europe and not having lived the American school system gives me a very open mind and the potential to bring fresh ideas when appropriate, and a novel look on those elements that already exist. My daily work in international business, working with diverse cultures and in multiple languages, continues to guide my belief that we need to empower our Suffield students to be critical thinkers, effective communicators and global citizens to be successful in whichever path they choose after graduation.
- Education: I have a bachelor degree in Commercial and Financial sciences with an IT management minor from Vlekho Business School in Brussels Belgium as well as post-grad degree in International Hospitality Management from the The Hague Hotelschool in The Netherlands. I did part of my studies at the University of Limerick in Ireland, which sowed the seed of my path to the United States.
- Family: My wife and I moved to Suffield 11 years ago when we found the farm of our dreams and have 3 wonderful children ages 7 and twins who are 5.
- Community Involvement: I have served on the Board of Education since December 2018 and truly hope I can continue to work with the BOE team for the next 4 years.
Why James is running for BOE:
As a parent of 3 children that are at the start of their educational path in the Suffield Public Schools, I have a vested interest in the success of the district. With the district having lived through a tumultuous period, I joined the BOE in December 2018 because there were multiple very important matters coming up that would shape the short and long term future of the district. With a strong Board of Education Team in these past months we have made great strides in bringing stability back to the district; this will allow us now to truly set out a long-term vision and a path to success for each and every student in our schools. I would love to continue this work on the Board so that I can assure the best possible education for all the children within the Suffield Public Schools.
Once elected, I plan to:
- Collaborate on a vision for the district that is exciting, forward-thinking, quality-driven and prepares our students for the world of tomorrow and the jobs that may not even exist yet.
- Advocate for the AgriScience program in our High School which is a definite strength of our district.
- Advocate for more parent participation, not just in the day-to-day school activity but also in the bigger education matters of the district, by improved communication on topics like the budget, the strategic plan and the vision for the district
- Ensure we provide the new Superintendent and his team of administrators the necessary means to be as successful and long-lived in the district as possible.
